9LAMINATE LAYERS3DINTERACTIVE MODEL

Armored vehicle glass,
exploded in free 3D.

Rotate a full-size SUV, open the driver door, and pull the nine-layer ballistic laminate apart. This free tool shows how glass, interlayers, polyurethane and polycarbonate work together to stop threats.

This page demonstrates a conceptual laminate structure. Layer thicknesses and materials are for interactive illustration only; production glazing is configured per vehicle model, threat level and target standard.

HOW TO USE

Three steps to see inside the glass

No download, no sign-up — the viewer runs entirely in your browser.

01

Open the driver door

Click the door button or the door itself. The front door swings open with the glass still attached — exactly how it sits in the vehicle.

02

Separate the laminate

Hit the laminate toggle or drag the explode slider. The nine layers float apart so you can see each one individually.

03

Adjust and compare

Scale each layer group or individual layer to feel how thickness builds up. Reset any time to return to the assembled vehicle.

INSIDE THE LAMINATE

Nine layers, four material groups

Ballistic vehicle glass is a composite, not a single pane. Each layer has a job: strike glass absorbs and spreads impact energy, interlayers hold fragments, polyurethane cushions, and the polycarbonate backer catches anything that gets through.

Demonstration values. Production thickness depends on protection level — handgun-rated glazing starts around 25 mm, rifle-rated around 40 mm. /results · /test-samples

Frequently asked questions

Is this tool really free?

Yes. The viewer runs in your browser with no sign-up, no download and no cost. It exists to help buyers and engineers understand armored glass before specifying it.

Are the thicknesses in the viewer real product specs?

No. The demo shows a conceptual nine-layer laminate at 43.29 mm for illustration. Real glazing is configured per vehicle model and threat level — handgun-rated glass starts around 25 mm and rifle-rated around 40 mm.

What standards is ballistic vehicle glass tested against?

Common reference standards include EN 1063 (BR ratings), UL 752, NIJ and ASTM, plus China's GA 165 for ballistic transparent materials. BallisticBuddy provides test reports to equivalent standards per project; certification applicability is confirmed in project documentation.

Which protection level do I need?

It depends on the threats you expect and the target market. Cash-in-transit and VIP vehicles commonly use BR4–BR6. Tell us your scenario and we will recommend a configuration with supporting test documentation.

Can I get a glass configuration like the demo for my vehicle?

Yes. Curved, heated, tinted and OEM-fit glazing are all configurable. Send us your vehicle model, required protection level and target market through the contact page.
